The United Counties of Prescott and Russell (UCPR) is continuing its partnership with the MRC d’Argenteuil, the MRC de Papineau, and Ottawa Riverkeeper to protect the Ottawa River with a shoreline cleanup on the waterfront in Lefaivre on September 23.

A shoreline cleanup will be held on September 23 from 3 to 5 p.m., at the North end of Presqu’île Road in Lefaivre. Anyone interested in participating must first register via Eventbrite. This fun activity is for all age groups and will be organized in accordance with the current COVID-19 guidelines.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for all residents of the region to take concrete action to preserve our magnificent river,” explained Stéphane Sarrazin, Warden of the United Counties of Prescott and Russell Council. “Thanks to the iCollect mobile app, it is also possible to clean up a shoreline on your own at any other time and track the amount of trash collected right from a smartphone.”

This event is a continuation of the many actions that are being taken as part of the Friendship Agreement, a commitment that aims to unite the three riverside communities in their goal to promote the protection and environmental health of the Ottawa River and its tributaries. Similar cleanups will also be organized in the MRC d’Argenteuil and the MRC de Papineau.

“I am proud to see the Friendship Agreement taking form, and I believe that this cleanup initiative is just the beginning of a series of actions that will benefit our entire community,” added Paula Assaly, Chair of the Friendship Agreement Implementation Committee.
