During the period of May 25 to July 26, officers with the Russell County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to 2887 calls for service. These included:

Motorist tries to flee police

On June 28, at approximately 10:45 p.m., a Russell County OPP officer conducted a traffic stop for an HTA offence on Sicard Street in Bourget, where an Ontario driver was arrested.

During the investigation, an officer utilized an ASD on the motorist. The driver was uncooperative and failed to comply with the officers’ demands. The driver attempted to flee the scene, but was arrested shortly after.

As a result of the investigation, a 38-year-old man from Bourget was charged with:

Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs CC 320.14(1)(a);
Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) CC 320.14(1)(b);
Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Cocaine CDSA 4(1);
Resist Peace Officer CC 129(a);
Possession unmarked cigarettes TTA 29(2);
Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor LLA 32(1);
Drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available CCA2017 12(1) and
Disobey stop sign – fail to stop HTA 136(1)(a)

Collision leads to impaired charges

On July 10, shortly after 4:15 a.m., Russell County OPP officers responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 417 Westbound near the Limoges exit, where an Ontario driver was arrested. There were no injuries.

During the investigation, an officer utilized an ASD on the motorist. The driver was transported to detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, a 28-year-old male from Limoges was charged with:

Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs CC 320.14(1)(a) and
Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) CC 320.14(1)(b)

Rockland traffic stop leads to charges

On July 10, shortly before 6:15 p.m., a Russell County OPP officer was patrolling and conducted a traffic stop for an HTA offence on Poupart Road in Rockland, where a Quebec driver was arrested.

During the investigation, an officer utilized an ASD on the motorist. The driver was transported to detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, a 38-year-old man from Gatineau was charged with:

Failure or refusal to comply with demand CC 320.15(1);
Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs CC 320.14(1)(a) and
Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) CC 320.14(1)(b)

G1 driver faces impaired charge in Embrun stop

On July 10, at approximately 11:30 p.m., a Russell County OPP officer was patrolling and conducted a traffic stop for an HTA offence on Notre-Dame Street in Embrun, where an Ontario driver was arrested.

Further investigation revealed that the driver was under the influence of alcohol. The driver was transported to detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, a 16-year-old, from Embrun was charged with:

Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs CC 320.14(1)(a);
Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) CC 320.14(1)(b);
Class G1 licence holder – unaccompanied by qualified driver HTAOReg 340/94 5(1) and
Driving motor vehicle with unsealed container of liquor LLA 32(1)

R.I.D.E. Program nabs Clarence-Rockland motorist

On July 18, shortly before 1:45 a.m., Russell County OPP officers conducted a R.I.D.E. Program on Russell Road in the City of Clarence-Rockland, where an Ontario driver was arrested.

During the investigation, an officer utilized an ASD on the motorist. The driver was transported to detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, a 52-year-old woman from the City of Clarence-Rockland was charged with:

Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor LLA 32(1);
Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs CC 320.14(1)(a) and
Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) CC 320.14(1)(b)

Driver charged after collision in Limoges

On July 21, shortly after 4:30 p.m., Russell County OPP officers responded to a two vehicle collision on Limoges Road in Limoges, where an Ontario driver was arrested. Both motorists were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries by the Prescott-Russell Emergency Medical Services (EMS).

As a result of the investigation, a 19-year-old male from Casselman was charged with:

Dangerous operation CC 320.13(1);
Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs CC 320.14(1)(a);
Drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available CCA2017 12(1) and
Possess unmarked cigarettes TTA 29(2)

The motorists each received 90-day-driver’s license suspensions and the vehicles were also impounded for seven days.

The accused are scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in L’Orignal at a later date.
