A local member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) has tested positive for COVID-19.

Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry MPP Jim McDonell issued a short statement on April 30 explaining he at first thought he had a cold but made an appointment to be tested for COVID-19.

“I am unsure of where I may have contracted the virus,” McDonell said.

The MPP stated that his symptoms are very mild. He attributed having only mild symptoms to the COVID-19 vaccination he had recently received.

“I share my experience as a caution to the more contagious variants and to the need to follow public health guidelines, McDonell said.

He is also following the required quarantine protocols.

McDonell’s constituency office in Cornwall remains open but is not accepting walk-in visitors at this time.
