A tanker truck fire after a tire blew out near the Ontario Provincial Police border check was extinguished by East Hawkesbury firefighters Wednesday evening.

On Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at approximately 9 p.m., members of the Hawkesbury Detachment of the OPP were conducting the provincial border check point between Quebec and Ontario on highway 417.

A commercial motor vehicle that was carrying fuel, traveling from Quebec to Ontario, arrived at one of the check points. The investigation has revealed that the tractor trailer tire suffered a blow out and caught fire.

No fuel was spilled, and the East Hawkesbury Fire Department attended the scene and promptly extinguished the fire. No one was injured during this incident.

The highway was closed for eight and a half hours to assure the safe transfer of the fuel and confirmation by the Ministry of Transportation that the road was safe for travel.

The Ministry of the Environment was notified.
