The route number of a local county road is going to change – a move which the United Counties of Prescott and Russell (UCPR) hopes will reduce confusion.

The UCPR Public Works Committee has approved changing the name of the Lochiel-Caledonia Boundary Road – which runs from Campbell Road to Skye Road –  to County Road 23A.  The section of road is located in between the UCPR and the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas, and Glengarry (SD & G). It is numbered as County Road 23 in the UCPR , but is named the Lochiel-Caledonia Boundary Road, while it is numbered and named County Road 23A in SD & G. The road has an interchange with Highway 417 and the Ministry of Transportation signage on the highway calls the road SD & G County Road 23, McCrimmon Road, because it connects with the settlement known as McCrimmon’s Corners.

According to UCPR Interim Director of Public Works Jérémie Bouchard, having two different names for the road has made it confusing for property owners during emergencies and for receiving deliveries. Bouchard recommended that the UCPR change the road number and that La Nation Municipality change the road name to County Road 23A.

UCPR council still must approve a by-law to officially change the road number.
