The SDG Library, in partnership with the Friends of the Summerstown Trails, is excited to be offering an outdoor reading activity for the whole family this weekend.

On Saturday, March 20 and Sunday, March 21, a StoryWalk® will be set up on one of the trails at Summerstown Forest north of Cornwall, in order to encourage people to enjoy reading and the outdoors together. The forest is located on Forest County Road 27 (Summerstown Road), 1.6 km north of Exit 804 on Highway 401.

A StoryWalk® presents the pages from a children’s picture book along a trail for walkers to read as they explore the trail. Pages of the story are laminated and displayed on a large board and then these boards are placed along the trail. This initiative supports both family literacy and healthy living.

The Friends of the Summerstown Trails (FOTST) is incorporated as a non-profit group run by volunteers with a stated mandate to maintain and develop green, recreational trails for healthy outdoor activities in the Summerstown Forest. In recent years, an impressive amount of progress has been made, including the addition of a new parking lot on County Rd. 27. Trails have also been improved and expanded, along with new grooming equipment and signage installed.
