As of Thursday, February 18, there were 118 active cases of COVID-19 among residents across the jurisdiction of the Eastern Ontario Health Unit (EOHU).
There were 11 COVID-19 patients from the EOHU’s territory in hospital as of February 18, and one patient was in intensive care.
The number of deaths resulting from COVID-19 across the area served by the EOHU as of Thursday was 66.
On Thursday, Medical Officer of Health Dr. Paul Roumeliotis said that even though the local case numbers are encouraging, concern remains about if more contagious variants of COVID-19 will have an effect locally.
Vaccinations
Across the jurisdiction of the EOHU, COVID-19 vaccination efforts are continuing to provide a second dose to long-term care facility residents and a first dose to retirement home residents and health care workers. Details will be released on Friday about how residents aged 80 and higher who do not live in long-term care or retirement facilities can be vaccinated.

Orange zone in effect

Ontario statistics
As of February 18, there were 1,038 new, active cases of COVID-19 across Ontario from February 17. According to calculations based on statistics from the Ministry of Health, there were 10,702 active cases of COVID-19 across Ontario as of February 18.
There were 758 COVID-19 patients in hospital across Ontario as of Thursday. Out of those patients, 277 were in intensive care, and 192 patients were on ventilators.
There had been 6,773 deaths due to COVID-19 across Ontario as of February 18, which was an increase of 44 deaths from February 17.
