Shortly before 8:30 p.m. on January 1, MRC d’Argenteuil Sûreté du Québec (SQ) police officers were notified that a person was inside a business on route 148 in Grenville-sur-la-Rouge.  A sales manager at the industrial plant contacted the SQ after receiving images by cell phone from surveillance cameras at the site.

At the scene, the police observed that there were fresh tracks leading into the building, but not away from it, and that there was a bicycle near the door. The officers heard a voice inside. The suspect opened the door slightly and closed it immediately when he saw the police.  A security perimeter was erected, and the suspect left the building without any resistance a little before 10 p.m.

A 48-year-old man from Lachute was arrested and then taken to the SQ station. The suspect was subsequently released on a promise to appear. He is due to return to court at a later date at the Saint-Jérôme Courthouse where he could face charges of break and enter and breach of probation.

The investigation is continuing to determine if the suspect could be linked to other break-ins at this business in recent weeks.
