Sarah Jane Rutherford was born and raised in Upper Lands, Northern Ireland, but her local roots brought her to Vankleek Hill. Her father Russell Silverson was born in Lachute to her grandparents Harold Silverson and Lily Woods. When Harold passed away, Lily moved back to Northern Ireland and raised her family there. Sarah Jane visited Vankleek Hill as a child to visit her aunt and uncle Lorna and Willis Silverson who lived on Bond Street and she knew that her future was going to be in the community.
“I fell in love with Vankleek Hill,” she said.
Now, Sarah Jane lives with her husband Nathan Rutherford in her aunt and uncle’s former home on Bond Street.
“I’m literally living the life I always envisaged,” she said.
Sarah Jane works at Tulmar Safety Systems in Hawkesbury and Nathan works for Hydro One in Vankleek Hill.
“Vankleek Hill has been wonderful to me,” she said.
