The planning process has advanced for a new industry and attraction coming to Hawkesbury.

On October 1, town council approved the severance of a lot located at the corner of Tupper and Tessier Streets where Artist-in-Residence/AIR Distillerie is planning to construct a new distillery and restaurant.

The lot for the development was taken from property that is in both the Town of Hawkesbury and neighbouring Champlain Township.  The distillery lot is located entirely within Hawkesbury.

The property conforms with all town, county, and provincial planning policies.

Pierre Mantha, who started AIR Distillerie in Gatineau in 2017, announced plans to purchase 14.8 acres of vacant land on Tupper Street in September for what will be the company’s first expansion.  Mantha hopes to have the Hawkesbury location open in May or June of 2021.

Council’s decision to approve the severance was unanimous.
