Fire destroyed hundreds of pallets and two 53-foot semi trailers on Saturday afternoon near St-Philippe in Brownsburg-Chatham.

The fire occurred at a commercial warehouse property on Route 148 at the corner with Montée Robert.

According to Brownsburg-Chatham Fire Chief Michel Robert, the department received the call at 3:34 p.m.  Fire departments from Lachute and St-André d’Argenteuil were also called to assist.

The building on the property was not affected by the fire.  Robert said that due to the hot weather on Saturday, some firefighters experienced heat exhaustion.

Route 148 was closed between Autoroute 50 and Montée St-Philippe as a result of the fire.  The plume of smoke was visible in Grenville and Hawkesbury.

The cause of the fire or the cost of the damage has not yet been determined.  The Sûreté du Québec has been asked to investigate.
