The Medical Officer of Health for the Eastern Ontario Health Unit has a warning about the dangers of cannabis edibles to children.

Dr. Paul Roumeliotis said on Wednesday that he was recently contacted by the Ontario Provincial Police about a child aged two to three years from Prescott and Russell counties who had accidentally consumed cannabis edibles.

Roumeliotis said that cannabis cookies and brownies can look the same as regular treats and should be kept locked away and carefully labelled so there is no confusion.

“Kids don’t know the difference, pets as well,” he said.

Cannabis edibles are legal in Canada but illegal and unsafe for children to consume.
