Outdoor public swimming pools, playgrounds, and splash pads are opening again in Québec.

Minister of Health and Social Services, Danielle McCann, and the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, Andrée Laforest, made the announcement on Saturday.

This measure aims to offer citizens the opportunity to cool off, especially following the first heatwave of the year in Québec. Drinking fountains will also be allowed to operate but individuals are encouraged to bring their own bottles to fill them.

Although the dangers of contamination by COVID-19 are less outside, this opening is however conditional on compliance with government instructions regarding physical distancing and hygiene measures. For preventive purposes, frequently touched surfaces, such as the pushbuttons of drinking fountains, should be cleaned regularly by the personnel responsible for these spaces and users should be able to wash their hands before and after each use.
