According to a source in the United Steelworkers union, temporary layoffs are in effect at Ivaco Rolling Mills in L’Orignal.
Starting this past weekend (April 4 and 5), the melt shop is shut down for two weeks and the rod shop will be on shut-down for one week.
The union source did not know exactly how many employees are affected.
Representatives of Ivaco would not comment on the temporary shutdown and layoffs.
According to its website, Ivaco employs 538 workers. Ivaco Rolling Mills produces wire rods and steel billets.
