Man dies in excavator incident

On Monday February 3, 2020 at approximately 11:50 a.m., members of the Hawkesbury Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Prescott-Russell Paramedic Service, and the Alfred-Plantagenet Fire Department responded to a fatal incident at an agricultural field near Concession Road-3 and Bolt Road in Alfred-Plantagenet Township.

Initial investigation revealed that the operator was aboard an excavator when it fell into a shallow body of water and the cabin was submerged. The operator was transported by ambulance and then by Ornge Ambulance Service (ORNGE) to an Ottawa Hospital. He was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

The deceased has been identified as Maxime Malette, age 22 of Alfred-Plantagenet Township.
The Ontario Ministry of Labour is investigating the incident.
