There is an informal birthday celebration at this year’s Vankleek Hill Fair for Vankleek Hill Collegiate Institute (VCI) classmates and students from other schools born in 1959 — but it is not just for the ’59 babies, say organizers.

There will be a range of students who attended VCI in the 70’s who will be getting together just to have fun. This get-together is being casually organized by Valerie Lanni ( Brown), Kim Russell (Mooney), Jill Crosby, Wendy Liston ( Oswald) with thanks to Heather Connors (Nixon) for her help.

At the moment, the two events planned are a steak dinner get-together at the Windsor Tavern on Friday evening, Aug 16. A tour of Beau’s All-Natural Brewing Company is set for Saturday afternoon, Aug 17 (followed by everyone heading down to the fairgrounds to attend the demolition derby).

A Thursday evening dinner get-together, Sunday brunch and a few more activities are being organized and to date, former local students from British Columbia, California, Niagara, Ottawa and more are making the trip to the Hill to celebrate their 60th birthday milestone.

Organizers are asking that people to confirm if they plan to attend any of the activities. To confirm your attendance or to know more about the rest of the weekend itinerary, email: [email protected].

If you have any photos you would like to share from the 70’s at VCI, please send them to that email address as well.
