The First Annual La Baie Run, in support of Hawkesbury’s General Hospital, will be held July 20, 2019 at L’Orignal Municipal Park.
The family event is hosted by Lalonde Physio of L’Orignal, and supported by local sponsors, including Théorêt & Martel Insurance Brokers.
“L’Orignal Park is an ideal place to have a run,” says Patrick Lalonde. The route along the bay is mostly level, says Lalonde, and offers fantastic scenery.
Lalonde has been running since he was 12 and once ran the length of the Appalachian Trail. For La Baie Run, however, Lalonde and the rest of Lalonde Physio’s staff will be handling the event’s organization.
La Baie Run will draw some well-known runners, including Canadian long-distance runner Dylan Wykes. Participants of all ages and fitness levels are welcome and can walk or run—or be pushed in a stroller.
“My 18-month-old daughter will be participating,” says Lalonde.
The 10-km run offers a top prize of $1000 for competitive runners, plus smaller prizes for the top three in each age group. A 5-km walk/run offers prize draws for participants, and there’s a 1-km route for children. Both shorter runs have a colour-run option.
Entry fees are $40 for the 10-km run, $30 for the 5-km walk/run, and $10 for the 1-km. Parents or guardians accompanying children on the 1-km route do not pay for that run.
After the runs there will be ice-cream and snacks donated by local businesses. Cider, beer, and barbecued food will also be available for purchase.
100% of entry fees will be donated to the Hawkesbury General Hospital. Participants can also raise additional funds and can set up teams of five of more for the corporate challenge.
Registration deadline is July 12 for those wishing to be eligible for competitive prizes and medals. Late registrations are accepted right up until July 20, but fees are higher for same-day registration.
La Baie Run takes place July 20, rain or shine. For information, fundraising forms, and to register, visit the event’s page at www.facebook.com/events/2015436002086636 or email the organizers at [email protected].
