Registration continues for Vankleek Hill’s Porchfest 2019, which will take place on Saturday, July 20, 2019. Organizers are hoping participants will register early for 2019, as extra organization is needed for an event that has grown much larger than ever anticipated when the first Porchfest took place in the town five years ago.
The 29th edition of Porchfest featured 32 bands spread out over 29 porches throughout Vankleek Hill. With that many performers and hosts taking part, it is essential to start organizing early.
“We’re hoping participants will register as early as possible to ensure all of the performers can add Porchfest to their individual schedules for 2019 and for Porch Hosts to do the same,” says Porchfest founder Ken Duff.
“Our committee is already in place and raring to go, so this will allow us to start filling in the time schedules and prepare signage much sooner than last year,” Duff said.
Performers and Porch Hosts can register until May 31. The goal this year to to have approximately 30 performers and porches, about the same as in 2018.
“We’ve pretty much reached the point where it would be tough to grow much more,” Duff explained. There are only so many acts and locations you can put into a five-hour period.”
After the 2018 event organizers solicited feedback from performers, porch hosts and visitors and received a great deal of response. While 95% of the feedback was very positive, there were a few issues brought up which will be addressed for 2019.
“One of the main focus points of this year’s Porchfest Committee will be to improve signage and information to ensure people know how to get around and who is playing where,” said Duff. “As well we want to make sure the volunteers are more visible to the guests so they know who to see if they have a question.”
Another change this year is the availability of Porchfest t-shirts. The shirts are being sold for $12 each and are available at The Review offices at 76 Main Street.
Musicians and Porch owners alike can register for this year’s event through this link: http://porchfestvankleekhill.ca/registration/. Just fill in the form and you will be contacted about scheduling and porch availability.
