SIU investigating after woman was injured during arrest

On Friday April 12, 2019 at approximately 6:30 p.m., members of the Hawkesbury Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a traffic complaint on Highway 417 in the East Hawkesbury Township.

As a result of the traffic stop and the arrest of the female driver, the woman sustained an injury and was treated at the hospital.

The OPP has notified the province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) which has invoked its mandate. As a result, the OPP will not be able to provide any further information.

The SIU unit is a civilian oversight agency which investigates circumstances involving police that have resulted in a death, serious injury, or allegations of sexual assault of a civilian in Ontario.
