The Hawkesbury Junior “A” Hawks’ only game this week was a tight one—as they narrowly lost in a shootout to the visiting Navan Grads.
On Friday night, the Hawks welcomed the Grads to the Robert Hartley Sports Complex for a matchup between Yzerman Division teams. After Hawkesbury’s Luke Grainger opened the scoring just past three minutes into the first period, the Grads would respond with back-to-back goals of their own to take the 2-1 lead. However, the Hawks would get another to tie the game at two apiece before the end of the frame. Things would continue back and forth from there with both teams trading goals in the second. An early third period tally would put Navan up 4-3 but Matt Gasuik would respond for the Hawks, potting his 11th of the season to knot the game at 4-4 by the end of regulation. With nothing solved in overtime, the game would come down to the shootout. Matthew Petizian would stop two out of three Navan shooters, but unfortunately for the Hawks, the Grads keeper would do one better, stopping all three Hawkesbury chances to give the visitors the 5-4 victory.
The Hawks return to action Sunday, February 24 when they travel to Kemptville to take on the 73’s.
