Since 2010, the Champlain Library has been providing children with a brand new book at Christmas through the “Book on Every Bed” campaign. The books are supplied to children whose families are recipients of Christmas baskets from both the Vankleek Hill and l’Orignal Food Banks. This year, the Library is planning to distribute books to approximately 70 children. But the library cannot do it alone. The library is looking for the support of the community.
Champlain Library is asking for donations of new books so that these children will wake up Christmas morning with a book on his or her bed. The library has a list of children which specifies the age, gender and language of each child.
If you would like to get in on the Christmas spirit by donating a new book to “A Book on Every Bed” please call the Champlain Library at 613-678-2216 or stop by the library at 94 Main Street East in Vankleek Hill to be matched with a child. The library will also accept monetary donations.
All books must be delivered to the library, unwrapped, with a gift bag and tissue paper by Friday, November 30, 2018.
While you are here, we have a small ask.
More people are reading The Review than ever before — across our many platforms. So far, we have not put up a paywall to limit the stories you can read. We want to keep you in the news loop. But advertising revenues are increasingly going to the big two: you know who they are. If you value The Review’s independent, local community journalism, or you value the many ways we support dozens of community organizations in their endeavours, consider supporting our work. It takes time, effort and professional smarts to stay on top of community news and present well-researched, objective news articles on issues which matter to you.
If you read stories on this website, or you have come here from an Instant Article post on Facebook, think about subscribing. It would be a vote of confidence for the work that we do, and for the future well-being of your community.
