Bring a picture of your grandmother to the Sainte-Anne-de-Prescott church on July 22 at 10 am for its annual pilgrimage. A colourful procession through the streets of the village will be held in honour of Saint Anne, and will be followed by an authentic Italian meal. After the meal, participants will have a choice between a farm tour and playing bocce ball.

“This year, since Saint Anne was Jesus’ grandmother, we’ve decided to honour grandmothers,” says David Sherwood of Ste-Anne-de-Prescott parish. “Parishioners and visitors are invited to come pray, light a free candle, and leave a picture or object that reminds them of the generosity, love, or role modelling of a grandmother.”

For the past 16 years, the event has been coordinated in conjunction with Montreal residents from Jelsi, in Italy, a community that shares the patron Saint Anne.

Mass will be at 10 am, followed by a procession with flags and banners through the village. Pilgrims are invited to recite prayers and regroup around a reliquary installed on Main St., in front of a statue of Saint Anne. The final benediction will take place inside the church.
