Champlain Township has received a $56,750 grant from the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports (Ontario Sports and Recreation Communities Fund) which will be used to increase program activities in Champlain Township, according to the May 8 monthly recreation department report, contained in the minutes of the last regular council meeting. The funds will be used to purchase more equipment and to hire a part-time assistant to run it. The funds from the grant will be spread over two years.

In other recreation news, planning is underway for the Festival de la rivière, which takes place June 28, 29 and 30. The recreation department will be meeting with the Knights of Columbus and the Familles de L’Orignal Families.

Preliminary plans for a shade component for Sacha’s Park in L’Orignal were being discussed and wheelchair-accessible picnic tables have been ordered. Tourisme Prescott-Russell Tourism has installed blue signs on all major routes into L’Orignal to advertise the park and street sign blades have been installed to help guide visitors to the accessible-to-all park.
