On Sunday, May 20, 2018, Excellent Events presents the 36th edition of the Heritage May Show Festival In Memory of Phil Arber. This Festival of Fun for Everyone celebrates joy and the arts with parades, music, arts, crafts, delicious food, and dancing in the streets of the Village of Vankleek Hill from 10 a.m. – 4 .p.m.
The schedule of events begins at 10 a.m. with a parade for everyone including children, pets, prams, bicycles, and families of all ages willing to march through town led by Majorette Hannah accompanied by drummer, William Laurin.
Fifty craft booths and delicious treats offer an intriguing variety of items for all tastes along Main Street. The Excellent Events Creativity Building features six arts vendors inside the new indoor location at the intersection of Main and High Streets.
A drumming circle, led by William Laurin, takes place after the parade at 11 a.m. in the park next to the Post Office. Stephanie’s Chalk It Up entertains children of all ages with crafts and art projects.
On stage on Main Street in front of the Windsor Tavern, the Voix-La Singers will perform at 11 a.m., followed by the Lise Pearl Dancers at 12 noon. At 12:45 p.m., there will be an announcement of the winners of the Butter Tart Competition, then at 1:30 p.m., the Vankleek Hill Old Tyme Fiddlers will entertain. At 2 p.m., the 4-H Square Dancers perform and at 2:30 they lead a Virginia Reel for all to join in. At 2:45 50 Proof will round out the day with an eclectic selection of old favourites.
Throughout town, several art exhibitions and restaurants are open to visitors. Three Owls Studio features an art exhibition entitled Les Katz Amis. Arbor Gallery will be open with a special exhibition. The Broken Kettle Bakery and Barkery celebrates its Grand Opening on Main Street. The Vankleek Hill Museum presents a display of hand-crafted agricultural tools and is recording stories of The Old Days as told by local residents. Elishka Farms features cute petting goats. The Vankleek Hill Library will have books and heritage items on display.
