To celebrate Canada’s 150th anniversary, Bob-T Tack Shop, located in Lancaster, put out a challenge to all horse riders in the region.

“We asked them to take part in a 150-kilometre horseback riding challenge,” said Bob-T Tack Shop owner Liette Deschambault.  “They registered on-line and had  three months to complete 150 kilometres of horse riding by Canada Day.”

Participants logged their rides and tabulated the kilometres. Out of 1500 invited riders, only three actually completed the task.

“We had lots of fun doing this” explained Kelly Cornelissen of Williamstown. “It gave me and my daughter an opportunity to ride together and enjoy the area.”

Everyone who completed the challenge received a special commemorative “We Did It!” hat, as well as a mug and t-shirt.  Their names were entered in a draw for a $200 gift certificate and the youngest participant, Kylie Cornelissen, won.

“I like riding and this challenge pushed us to ride a lot,” enthused Kylie.

When asked what she would do with the prize money, Kylie said: buy something for riding, of course!
