On July 22, the Prescott-Russell LGBTQ+ Support Group will hold its first-ever Pride Picnic to support the LGBTQ+ community in the area. The event will take place at Confederation Park in Hawkesbury from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and is open to all who wish to attend.

Attendees are asked to bring their own picnic baskets, refreshments, lawn chairs, and blankets. No RSVP is required.

The group describes its objective as facilitating contact among LGBTQ+ people in Prescott-Russell and to break the isolation that can be felt in rural areas. They also aim to support those questioning their sexual and/or gender identity.

The group meets the second Thursday of each month, having held its first ever meeting on May 11 of this year. The meetings are not only for members of the LGBTQ+ community but also for their allies, parents, and partners.

Those interested in finding out more about the initiative may contact Mallory Boileau by email at [email protected] or by phone at 613-938-0435 ext. 439.
