When high school band Aurora Blue first started recording its debut album last July, band members expected to be finished by the end of the summer. Little did they know that the recording would take them all the way to their very first tour.

“We’re all senior high school students, so we’re pretty young,” says keyboard player Ayden Miller. “There’s not a lot of kids going on tour, so it’s neat that we get to do that.”

Miller is accompanied in the band by vocalist Gaby Taylor, drummer Ryan Lamb, guitarist Nathan Parker, and bass player Everett McMiven. “We’ve really been pushing ourselves,” he reveals. “We’re all pretty hyped to be going on tour; it’s going to be a learning experience.”

On August 5, this learning experience will be taking the band to Vankleek Hill. Starting at 7:30, Aurora Blue will be performing live at the Granary Beizli. Audiences should expect an original blend of indie rock, pop, and soft rock. “We don’t really like to give ourselves a genre,” confesses Miller. “We have a lot of key-driven songs, which is different from the classic rock band, I guess.”

The Orillia-based band will be starting their tour in Montreal on August 3, before making their way to Ottawa. They will be selling Cool Woman, their debut EP, at each of the performances.
