Excellent Events continues, in memory of Phil Arber, to celebrate Vankleek Hill tradition with the 21st edition of its annual Horse and Buggy Parade and Strawberry Social.

“Our forefathers were excellent horsemen and many continue to honour the traditional means of using horses for transportation and farm work,” says Excellent Events organizer Samme Putzel.

Presented by the Vankleek Hill Farmers’ Market, the Strawberry Social will take place at the Vankleek Hill Fairgrounds, where attendees will have the chance to enjoy ice cream, homemade short cake, and, of course, fresh locally-grown strawberries served by soon-to-be grade 12 student volunteers from Vankleek Hill Collegiate Institute (VCI).

Money raised from the event will be used to help fund the students’ graduation celebrations next June.

Starting at 1 p.m., The Horse and Buggy Parade will wind its way through the streets of Vankleek Hill, before ending at the Fairgrounds. The Strawberry Social begins after the parade at 2 p.m., with a Horse Ground-Driving Competition to take place at 2:30 p.m..

An Ecumenical Church Service will also be held at 11 a.m. under the green tent at the Fairgrounds to kick off the day’s activities.
