The Glengarry Pioneer Museum is opening its doors for its 55th year this coming long weekend and has some new exhibits for visitors to enjoy. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore 19th century carpentry in the Roxborough Town Hall. This exhibit will showcase the process from cutting down the tree to building post and beam structures. The main exhibit in the Orange Lodge celebrates Confederation. Visitors will learn about the Fathers of Confederation, Glengarry’s links to Confederation and the new Dominion. On Sunday, May 21, visitors can take in the new exhibits as well as enjoy a Victorian Tea in the afternoon and listen to a guest speaker who will delight with tales and photos from the time of Confederation. If you are looking for an educational adventure this weekend, pack a picnic, and visit your community museum on Saturday, Sunday or Monday of the long weekend from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Guest speaker and local Historian, Dane Lanken will share photos and stories of what Canada and Glengarry looked like in the 1860s as the country prepared for Confederation. His talk will begin at 2 p.m. in the one-room school house.

Following Mr. Lanken’s presentation, the Victorian Tea will be served in the pavilion from at 3 p.m. Local volunteer, Linda Burgess hopes the apple blossoms will be out in time to decorate the pavilion and help bring in the spring as she and other volunteers pour hot tea and serve scrumptious finger sandwiches and sweet treats.
