A collision on Highway 417 near Limoges has claimed the lives of two people.

On Tuesday April 30, just before 3 p.m., Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers, along with paramedics and firefighters responded to a collision on the westbound lanes of Highway 417. Initial information indicated that a collision occurred between a transport truck and a car and that they were both engulfed in flames.

Witnesses attempted to remove the occupants from the car but were unable to, due to the intensity of the flames and smoke. The two occupants of the car were pronounced deceased at the scene. The transport driver was not hurt.

Westbound Highway 417 remained closed for several hours and reopened shortly after 1:30 a.m. Wednesday. 

The OPP is working with the Office of the Chief Coroner to confirm the identity of the deceased individuals.  

The investigation is ongoing.
