There was no electricity in the village of Grenville and surrounding areas of Grenville-sur-la-Rouge near the Ottawa River during the night of Friday, April 19.

A power line fell to the ground and a pole burned in front of École St-Martin on Rue Principale in Grenville. Hydro-Québec described the cause of the outage as equipment failure.

The outage began at 6:52 pm Friday and 583 customers were affected. Nearby residents said they heard a loud noise, the lights flickered, and then went off. Another witness said there were sparks and flames when the firefighters arrived.

Firefighters from Grenville and Hawkesbury, and a Hydro-Québec crew responded. By 10 pm Friday, power was restored to the area along Rue Maple/Route 344 in Grenville. However, service was not restored to the rest of the village until 5:30 am on Saturday, April 20.
