September is Library Card Sign-Up Month, and the Champlain Library would like to remind you that cards are free for residents of Champlain and East Hawkesbury, as well as children who attend school in Champlain.
Our fall programs are underway! Join us every Thursday after school for a different activity: our brand-new Discovery Lab the first week, great reads at Junior Book Club the second, science exploration with Let’s Talk Science the third, and friendly chess matches the fourth. Young children and their caregivers can also enjoy weekly early‑learning fun at the library. On Tuesday mornings at 10, Storytime helps little ones build a lifelong love of reading with engaging English and French stories, followed by a snack, a craft. EarlyON, Thursdays at 10 am, offers songs, games, and play‑based learning for children ages 0 to 5, while caregivers can connect with others and receive guidance from an early childhood professional.
Adults will find plenty to enjoy, too, including fiction and non-fiction book clubs, Astronomy Club, art workshops, movie nights, and guest speakers. On September 24, discover what astronomy was like before telescopes with expert guest speaker Pierre Paquette, who will present Medieval Arabic Astronomical Instruments at the Creating Centre.
And that’s only the beginning! Your card provides access to audiobooks, DVDs, video games, board games, puzzles, park passes, and our growing Library of Things. You can borrow a light therapy lamp, electricity monitor or indoor air quality meter.
We also offer digital books, audiobooks, magazines, and streaming video through our apps, along with free Wi-Fi, public computers, printing, scanning, and faxing. Best of all, we’re fine-free – no more late fees!
