After 33 years of public service, Eric Larocque has officially submitted his candidacy for Ward 4—West Hawkesbury Councillor in the upcoming Champlain Township municipal election.
For Larocque, this campaign is a natural continuation of a lifetime devoted to serving others in his community.
“Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of helping people during some of the most important moments of their lives,” said Larocque. “Today, as I enter the next phase in my pursuit of civic service with my recent work retirement, I believe I still have much to offer, and I want to put my experience to work for the residents of Champlain Township.”
During more than three decades, Larocque led teams that managed a significant variety of public resources, worked closely with all levels of government and collaborated with local municipalities. He also oversaw major projects with significant changes and growth, while maintaining a strong commitment to quality outcomes.
His career also provided extensive experience in public administration, strategic planning, financial stewardship, emergency management, and collaborative leadership, skills he believes are directly applicable to municipal government.
For Larocque, however, his experience is not the message, it is the foundation.
“My experience only matters if it can help improve the lives of our residents. That is exactly what I hope to do by serving on Township Council.”
Beyond his professional career, Larocque has remained actively involved in the community. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Prescott-Russell Employment Services Centre and previously served on the Board of Groupe Action, reflecting a lifelong commitment to community involvement and volunteerism.
A Campaign Focused on Residents
“I believe the role of a Councillor is first and foremost to listen. Good decisions begin with understanding the concerns, ideas, and priorities of the people that we represent.”
Among his priorities is continuing to support seniors by encouraging initiatives that strengthen community-based services.
Regarding the proposed Alto high-speed rail project, Eric believes residents deserve complete and transparent information before decisions are made. He recognizes that opinions vary within the community and believes Council’s responsibility is to listen carefully, understand the facts, and ensure residents and Champlain Township’s interests are well represented throughout the process.
He also believes residents deserve reliable municipal services. Addressing the lack of housing, maintaining roads and infrastructure, ensuring dependable waste and recycling collection, and investing responsibly in Township assets will remain key priorities.
At the heart of his commitment to the community Larocque believes that responsible financial management must guide every decision he makes on your behalf.
“Our residents work hard for every tax dollar they pay. Those dollars must be managed responsibly, transparently, and invested where they deliver the greatest benefit to the community.”
Looking Ahead
Larocque believes that Champlain Township’s future depends on thoughtful planning, sound financial management, quality municipal services, and a Council that works collaboratively and respectfully to address both today’s needs and tomorrow’s opportunities.
Ward 4 is a community where neighbours know one another, where families and seniors matter, and where respectful, accessible leadership can make a meaningful difference.
