Pleasant Corners Public School (PCPS) is presenting its upcoming musical production of The Jungle Book Kids, on February 27 at 6 p.m. and February 28 at 11 a.m. Public tickets will be available at the door, at PCPS, or online for student guardians through My Family Room.
This lively production showcases the diverse talents of PCPS students, featuring beloved characters, energetic dance numbers, and the classic songs audiences know and love along with exciting new additions. The production also highlights the strength of PCPS’s growing arts programming, which includes fiddle club, choirs, drama club, dance club, guitar club, and numerous performance opportunities that allow students to apply their learning in authentic, real-world contexts.
The show is being led by nine-year-old Ariya Rautenback, who takes on the role of Mowgli. Though younger than many of her co-stars, Ariya stands out for her remarkable energy and commitment to the production. “I’m very dedicated to my work on this musical and I’m so excited to see it all come together!”
Rebecca Paiement, Music Teacher at PCPS, Director of the Drama Program, and professional musician, emphasized the program’s cross-curricular impact.
“Students involved in this production are not only performing on stage, but they are also fully engaged in the production process. They are learning about sets, lighting systems, microphones, live sound operation, digital recording software, and music notation technology.”
Student Skyler Saardi, who plays the beloved character Baloo, shared how the program has transformed her confidence. “Before joining the drama club and being cast in this show, you would not have recognized me. I was super shy, kept to myself and my friends, and now I’m singing and dancing around in a bear costume! It’s been an amazing experience that has really helped to bring me out of my shell.”
Principal Laura Kirby highlighted the broader academic benefits of arts participation. “Our arts programs play an important role in student success across all subject areas. We consistently see students who participate in drama and music demonstrate increased confidence in reading, presenting, and communicating in both French and English.”
Student Beatrice Gillbanks, who stars as Bagheera, reflected on how PCPS arts opportunities have shaped her future goals.
“I’m so thrilled to be given the opportunity at PCPS to take part in experiences such as this. My first experience was as Clara in The Nutcracker at PCPS. Since then, I’ve taken part in various comedy shows, musical performances like the Christmas Concert and two St Andrew’s Day festivals, and now this amazing musical.”
Community members are encouraged to come support these talented students, celebrate the arts at PCPS, and enjoy an entertaining production filled with humor, memorable music, and spectacular performances. Join us as we swing into the jungle for an unforgettable show – and perhaps discover “the bare necessities” of a great night at the theatre!
