Glengarry District High School (GDHS) hosted a fun and active afternoon on Tuesday, January 27 for Special Olympics athletes in Grades 1 to 6.

Students from Laggan Public SchoolPleasant Corners Public School, and St. Finnan’s Catholic School were invited to GDHS to take part in an afternoon of activities, which wrapped up with a dance party. Students in Grades 7 to 12 at GDHS planned, set up and ran each station throughout the afternoon.

Participants rotated through games, including corn hole, bowling, indoor bocce ball, and mini basketball. Athletes had the opportunity to compete against each other, as well as against some of the GDHS student leaders. “It was a wonderful day. Our students had an amazing time planning and participating in the Special Olympics activities. The smiles on all the students’ faces were proof that it was a great day, and hopefully we can make this happen again,” said Stephanie McNaughton, an Educational Assistant at GDHS.

The event was supported by Special Olympics Ontario, providing ribbons and t-shirts for all athletes.
