The Dalkeith Winter Carnival was held on Saturday, January 24, and Sunday, January 25. Unfortunately, the extremely cold temperature on Saturday, which averaged -20 Celsius, led organizers to decide to cancel the parade that afternoon out of concern for the safety of participants and spectators. However, hardy hockey players were not deterred and were still on the rink. Inside the community centre where it was much warmer, there were activities all day on Saturday, including euchre, an afternoon performance by the MacLeod Fiddlers, and a dance that evening. On Sunday, the carnival concluded with a roast pork supper.
