Though summer may still feel far away, students and recent graduates can now look at securing a front-row seat in the world of community-led, watershed-based natural resource management, as the Raisin Region Conservation Authority (RRCA) is offering several seasonal employment opportunities.

The conservation authority is recruiting 14 summer staff this year to help deliver programs during the busy Conservation Area and field work season. Positions range from conservation technician to marina attendant and Cooper Marsh nature interpreter.

RRCA services and programs include protecting people and property from natural hazards like flooding and erosion, conserving environmentally significant land, protecting municipal drinking water sources, fostering landowner stewardship, and providing recreation and eco-tourism opportunities. Three Conservation Areas – Gray’s Creek, Charlottenburgh Park, and Cooper Marsh provide the region with public access to nature.

Last summer, Caroline Kupczyk – an engineering chemistry graduate from Queen’s University now working on her master’s in civil engineering – worked on natural feature inventories on RRCA conservation lands. “The positive environment and collaborative nature of the RRCA makes it a very enjoyable workplace,” she said. “It is fulfilling to know that the work I am doing has a direct effect on supporting the environment.”

The RRCA also offers co-op placements for local students as opportunities arise. For more information, visit rrca.on.ca or contact (613) 938-3611 or [email protected].
