Extremely dry conditions due to a lack of rain in recent weeks has led to a series of bans on open fires, and extreme level warnings about the potential for forest fires.
Currently, open fire bans are in effect for Champlain Township, The Nation Municipality, the Township of East Hawkesbury including campfires in Voyageur Provincial Park, the Township of Alfred and Plantagenet, Municipality of Casselman, the City of Clarence-Rockland, and Russell Township.
In North Glengarry, small, backyard fires remain permitted, but commercial and agricultural burning is prohibited.
According to local fire departments and SOPFEU, the Québec forest fire protection agency, the forest fire risk is extreme in Grenville-sur-la-Rouge, Brownsburg-Chatham, Lachute, and Saint-André-D’Argenteuil.
