On Monday, April 7, the Hawkesbury Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment welcomed new Auxiliary members to the team.

Auxiliary members are volunteers who support the regular police force in non-enforcement roles for a minimum of 16 hours per month. Members must also undergo training in police procedures via ride-alongs, first aid and CPR, defensive use of force tactics, and communications and community relations.

Acting Inspector and Interim Detachment Commander Dominic Lalonde was pleased to receive the new members who will assist with education, local events, and community policing initiatives.

Auxiliary Constables Christopher Bettez-Scott, Cedric Guiborg, and Xavier Sauve were introduced by Acting Auxiliary Sergeant Yasser Serbouti, alongside Provincial Constable Auxiliary Liaison and Community Engagement Officer Eric Ranger.

“Our goal is to make a safer community in Hawkesbury and the surrounding areas, bringing awareness to initiatives like the ‘Lock It or Lose It’ campaign,” one of the Auxiliary Constables said.

The Auxiliary force allows recruits to give back to the community, build their resumes, gain experience, and foster positive interactions between the police and the public. The recruits will attend community events to educate the public about numerous OPP initiatives to protect communities, build connections, host educational events at schools, and increase public awareness of these efforts.

The unit welcomes applicants for the Auxiliary program and encourages those interested to find out more and apply at https://www.opp.ca/index.php?id=115&entryid=56b758c48f94ac9e5828d172, or visit the detachment at 1425 Cameron Street, Hawkesbury.
