After nearly a year of construction, the new St-Eugène Community Centre is now officially open.
At a ceremony held at the facility on Wednesday, August 14, East Hawkesbury Mayor Robert Kirby emphasized how the new community centre will be a place that strengthens ties between members of the community.
The new community centre replaces a former facility in the village, which became unsafe for continued use.
The budget for the new community centre was $1.5 million. A total of $780,000 in funding had been confirmed, including a $480,000 grant. The United Counties of Prescott and Russell contributed $50,000, and the remainder of the cost is being covered through fundraising and long-term municipal debt.
A weekend of events for the public to enjoy the new St-Eugène Community Centre is planned for September 20 and 21.
