The Prescott County 4-H Finance Club has wrapped up with the graduates taking away a sound understanding of their individual Financial Personality and Financial Literacy, covering topics as financial goals, marking SMART financial decisions, budgeting (particularly for post-secondary education), using the services of a financial institution, investing and credit, and becoming an entrepreneur and owning your own business.  Brand new members to 4-H were welcomed along with members who have participated in previous clubs.  Leader Jean-Denis Methot showed a TedTalk video on entrepreneurship and then explained the decision-making process and outcome by using an actual entrepreneurship experience.  One session was dedicated to drafting a solid cover letter and resumé to land that first or subsequent job.  Leader Ida Everest shared personal examples of both documents and tips for attracting that prospective employer. For their Club Achievement Project, members prepared and delivered a small presentation on their poster entitled “Financial Tip of the Week” which was judged by former 4-H Leader, Brian MacDuff. Anna Wyman presented the winning poster “Balancing your money is the Key to Having Enough” and received the book “The Wealthy Barber Returns” by David Chilton as a prize. All posters will be entered into the 4-H Competitions at the 2024 Vankleek Hill Fair.

4-H is a wholesome program for youth (aged 6-21) to learn about topics, enjoy hands-on experience and mentorship. New folks do ask what the 4 Hs represent: Head, Heart, Hands and Health! Local clubs include the Calf Club, Go for the Gold, Square Dancing etc. and there are typically six evening meetings for each Club. 4-H’s motto is “Learn by Doing”. Please see The Prescott County 4-H Facebook Page or 4-H Ontario  for more information.
