Conditions were dusty in downtown Hawkesbury in recent days as the old pavement was removed from John Street between Le Chenail Boulevard and Main Street, and on Main Street between John Street and William Street, and on John Street between Main Street and Regent Street.

The road surface was gravel following the removal of the old pavement, making it a dusty drive during one of the rare recent weeks where it has not rained. The previous asphalt surface was a mess of cracks and potholes.

In June, Hawkesbury Town Council awarded a contract valued at $405,537.80 including sales tax to Cornwall Gravel for repaving on John and William streets.

Sidewalk and curb repairs on William Street were also completed in August and September.

At the September 14 council meeting, Director of Public Works Jonathan Wilson said the installation of new pavement on the three streets will be completed by mid-October.
