On Friday, August 7, the municipalities of Gore and Lachute signed a 99-year lease aimed at preserving Lac Beattie Nature Park. The municipalities have also committed to expanding opportunities for residents and visitors to enjoy the 268-hectare natural area.
The agreement secures the long-term protection of the park, which serves as a recreational and tourism destination for the region. The lease is intended to preserve the property for future generations while supporting continued public access to outdoor recreation.
Gore Mayor Alain Giroux and Lachute Mayor Bernard Bigras-Denis said the agreement will help ensure the park remains a space for recreation, nature appreciation, and healthy outdoor activities.
During the announcement, Bigras-Denis confirmed a $2,000 contribution toward the 15th edition of the Coureur des Bois Challenge, scheduled for August 22 at Lac Beattie Nature Park. The annual event attracts hundreds of participants and features a variety of outdoor activities.
The municipalities purchased open-water swimming buoys that will be available free of charge to residents of Gore and Lachute. The safety buoys are intended to improve swimmers’ visibility while using the lake and encourage participation in open-water swimming.
Giroux and Bigras-Denis said the lease agreement, financial contribution, and swimming safety initiative reflect a shared commitment to protecting the area’s natural heritage while promoting recreation, tourism, and public access to outdoor spaces.
