Hawkesbury OPP and Russell County OPP officers spent the past long weekend conducting joint marine patrols with the Sûreté du Québec on the Ottawa River. They concentrated their efforts on covering the area from the Carillon Dam to L’Orignal and the mouth of the Rouge River.
These coordinated patrols help promote safe and responsible boating while enhancing enforcement and public safety on our shared waterways. Officers monitor compliance with federal marine legislation, including impaired boating, operator competency requirements, vessel safety equipment, and other marine safety regulations.
Boaters are reminded that both the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the Sûreté du Québec have the authority to enforce federal marine laws on the Ottawa River, regardless of the provincial boundary.

-Ensure required safety equipment is on board
-Never operate a vessel while impaired
-Be courteous and share the water safely
