The already rough section of concrete pavement on Highway 417 near Vankleek Hill became even rougher on Thursday, July 2.

Hot temperatures caused the concrete to buckle in the westbound lanes, resulting in some significant bumps. According to OPP Sergeant Erin Cranton, two vehicles sustained damage. No injuries were reported.

Due to the damage, the westbound lanes were closed between Highway 34 (Exit 27) and McCrimmon Road/County Road 23A (Exit 35). Traffic followed a detour along Highway 34 and McCrimmon Road.

Cranton said the westbound lanes of Highway 417 remained closed overnight so the road could be repaired.

During the summer of 2025, concrete buckled during hot weather on the eastbound lanes of Highway 417 between Dunvegan Road and McCrimmon Road, also causing damage to the highway and vehicles.
