East Hawkesbury Township Council has awarded the contract for the construction of a new fire hall in St-Eugène. Construction of the new facility is to begin in less than one month.

At a special council meeting held on Wednesday, June 3, the contract was awarded to the Dale Coleman Construction Group at a cost to the township of $1,809,500. The company is based in Avonmore and submitted the second lowest of six tenders the township received for the new fire hall project. The lowest tender, from Maylan Group Inc. of Hawkesbury, was withdrawn by the company due to a calculation error. A total of 11 companies are subcontractors for the project, including electrical, framing, masonry, and plumbing/HVAC businesses in Vankleek Hill, Hawkesbury, L’Orignal, Alfred, and Maxville.

The new fire hall will be located at 5151 County Road 14 in St-Eugène near the township office and Department of Public Works garage. It will replace the current facility on St-Paul Street which is old and no longer meeting the needs of the fire department.

East Hawkesbury Chief Administrative Officer Luc Lalonde said construction of the new fire hall in St-Eugène will start after July 1, 2026, and the contractor will have 12 months to complete the project.
