The Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry (SD&G) Detachment of Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating a fatal collision in South Glengarry Township.

On Monday May 18, shortly after 5 a.m., officers responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision involving a single vehicle in the ditch. A lone male driver was located unconscious inside the vehicle. While officers were attempting to extricate the individual, the vehicle became fully engulfed in flames. Despite their efforts, rescue attempts were unsuccessful. The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) attended and treated three officers for smoke inhalation. County Road 34, between Concession 2 and surrounding roadways, was closed for the investigation but has since been reopened.

The SD&G OPP continues to investigate, with the assistance of the Coroner’s Forensic Services (CFS), OPP Technical Collision and Reconstructionist Collision Investigators.
