Heavy rain on Saturday, April 3 and into Easter Sunday, April 4th, caused local rivers and streams to swell as the rainfall combined with continued melting of snow and ice.

The water was wild as it flowed over the spillway at the Carillon hydroelectric dam on Sunday afternoon. That morning, the creeks in Hawkesbury were overfilled. The water was high and muddy due to the heavy rain in the creek beside Bon Pasteur Street near St. Jude’s church.

During the afternoon of Monday, April 6, the average daily flow of the Ottawa River at Carillon was 3,771 cubic metres or 13,317.6 cubic feet per second, according to the Ottawa River Regulation Planning Board.
