On Thursday, April 2, the Town of Hawkesbury held a flag-raising ceremony at town hall on Higginson Street to mark World Autism Awareness Day. A pair of autistic individuals raised the ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) United flag in a show of solidarity, recognizing the daily achievements of those living with autism.
Approximately 20 people attended the ceremony in support of the initiative, including Hawkesbury Mayor Robert Lefebvre, Hawkesbury firefighters, municipal staff, and residents.

ASD United founder Nicole Taylor said, “Our partnership with the Town of Hawkesbury has been ongoing since we first began raising the flag here at town hall, and we’re proud that this originally was the first municipality across Prescott-Russell to do so.”
“Over the years, autistic individuals and their families have appreciated the time and effort shown by the community in recognizing those with autism. We look forward to continuing to raise awareness and support autistic individuals in our community and beyond,” Taylor said.
