On the night of March 25, at around 1 a.m., OPP officers from Hawkesbury Detachment conducted a traffic stop on Main Street, in Plantagenet. During the intervention, the officers found copper pipes, copper wires, and various construction tools inside the vehicle. Investigation confirmed that these items had been reported stolen.

Following the investigation, David Paul Paquette of Ottawa was charged with the following offences:

• CC 351(1) Possession Break-in Instruments

• CC 355(a) Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000

• CC 145(5)(a) Failure to comply with release order – other than to attend court

• CCA2017 12(1) Drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available

• HTA 33(1) Driver fail to surrender licence

• HTA 13(2) Obstruct plate

Paquette was held for a bail hearing, held on March 25 at the L’Orignal courthouse.
